Overview
The first arrondissement
is the center of Paris. It borders the Seine (6th), the Marais (4th),
the Madeleine (8th) and the merchant area of the Sentier (2nd). It
includes the Louvre, les Halles, the Rue de Rivoli, the Pont Neuf, Palais
Royal, the Rue. St. Honore, and the Bank of France. Many bus lines,
metro lines, and suburban trains (RER lines) run through it. Parking
is difficult except for the recent addition of underground parking lots
under Les Halles. The 1st has a wide range of shopping and eating
options, ranging from very moderate prices to very upscale pricey establishments.
