Overview
The second
arrondissement is the heart of central Paris, slightly North of the Louvre
and Palais Royal. This district is known by French people as the neighborhood
including the French stock market 'La Bourse' and the famous
merchant's district called the Sentier. It includes the
world famous Opera Garnier, as well as a wide selection of Parisian theaters.
It borders the Palais Royal and the Louvre district (1st), the Madeleine
(8th), and the shopping district where all of the famous French department
stores are located (9th). Many bus lines, metro lines, and suburban
trains (RER lines) run through it. Parking is difficult except for
the recent addition of underground parking lots under the department stores,
the Bourse section and near the Opera house. The 2nd has a number of
great restaurants, located on the Rue des Petits Champs and places where
young people go out at night near the Opera house.
