There’s something about Paris & Helmut Newton…

Helmut Newton is one of our favorite artists and photographers and we strongly suspect that you would love to take a visit to Paris’ Grand Palais where the first show of Newton’s work is displayed in for the first time since his death. The show consists of more than 230 breathtaking images in the form of original and vintage prints, Polaroids, contact sheets in a variety formats and huge exhibition pieces… Newton died at 83 in 2004 when a heart attack caused him to crash his car as he left the Chateau Marmont, in Hollywood. He did a lot of his work in France – especially for French Vogue – so it makes sense that the Grand Palais (one of the most beautiful places ever) is home to a retrospective of his provocative work…

Helmut Newton at work in Paris

Newton‘s work brings us the beauty, eroticism, humour and – sometimes – violence of his world: fashion, luxury and power. The exhibition which lasts until July the 30th is a unique opportunity to discover how much Newtonian women are seductive, powerful and dominant, and yet never icy… He presents a unique vision of the contemporary female body. The exhibition also explores the secret fields of his work, with press clippings and a film made by his widow, June Newton, rounding out the exhibition – on display in the Southeast gallery. Eventually, you can enjoy the amazing sun filled terrace of the Grand Palais to nibble and have a nice drink under the arcades while enjoying the first rays of Summer… Controversy was never this tasteful !

Exhibition Helmut Newton. Open everyday (except on Tuesday), from 10am to 10pm.Admission: €11, €8 for 13-25, free under 13.
