As of Feb. 10, the new highest auction price for a Salvador Dalí painting came in at $22 million, when “Portrait of Paul Eluard” soared over pre-auction estimates of $9 million at Sotheby’s! Dali now holds the record for the highest auction price ever for a Surrealist painting. If you are an admirer of the Catalan master, « L’Espace Dalí » presents the unique permanent exhibition in France entirely devoted him. In the heart of Montmartre district, the museum has more than 300 of his works, more particularly his sculptures and engravings. The english commentaries provided with some of the works are astounding. It’s a psychedelic experience, with weird lighting and an eerie audio!
The museum has a great atmosphere for all the family and even children will be able to recognise the collection of prints that Dalí made for an illustrated edition of Alice in Wonderland. Visit the fantastic gift shop, if you’re willing to spend big bucks on expensive replications/prints… There is a tour stop for passengers located at the bottom of the Butte Montmartre (on Boulevard Rochechouart). And so, by going up the hill of the Sacre-Coeur, which can be negotiated by stairs or funicular, then turning left at the top and following the direction of Place du Tertre, you will find the museum situated behind this (11, rue Poulbot). It is open all year round from 10am to 6pm. A Must See for art enthusiasts.
